Doug O’Brey played baseball for the Falcons from 1981-1983.  During his time in Misenheimer, he recorded a .418 batting average and a .535 on base percentage, which are tops in the Falcon record books.

In 1982, he batted .424 as a junior after registering 56 hits.  Of those hits, he had 15 doubles, two triples and four home runs while driving in 28. He was also issued 42 walks in 40 games, which ranks second in the Falcon record book.

During his senior season, he hit .409 which included four homers, four doubles and three triples.  He also drove in 30 RBI.

For his performance, he was an All-Conference Carolinas selection in 1983.

Following his playing career with the Falcons he began his professional career, where he played 15 seasons in the Albany (N.Y.) Twilight League, where he was a six-time all-star and the league’s batting champion in 1984.  In addition, he was on the gold medal winning team at the Empire State Games.

After his playing days were over, he was a teacher with the Albany City Schools from 1984-2016. He also held an assistant coaching position at Siena College from 1987-1990 and was the head coach at Albany from 1993-1999.  While with the Great Danes, he had a career record of 82-96-1.

He currently is an assistant coach with the Amsterdam Mohawks of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League, a summer wooden-bat league based in New York.

He is also a member of the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame, the Scotia-Glenville High School Hall of Fame and the Albany Twilight League Hall of Fame.
