Va. Wesleyan pulls away in second half to top Pfeiffer, 83-67
NEWPORT NEWS, VA. (Nov. 29, 2025) — Virginia Wesleyan Universityused a dominant second-half surge to defeat Pfeiffer 83-67 on Saturday afternoon at the Freeman Center in a neutral-site matchup in the Holiday INNvitational hosted by Christopher Newport.
The Marlins (4-1) outscored Pfeiffer 47-34 after halftime, turning a three-point edge at the break into a comfortable win. Omari Deveaux led VWU with a game-high 28 points, hitting four 3-pointers and going 6-for-6 at the line. Amari Moorer added 18 points and five assists, while Malcolm Velmar chipped in 17 points, including four 3-pointers.
Pfeiffer (4-4) hung tough early, shooting 50% in the first half and leading twice before trailing 36-33 at intermission.
Doug Smith paced the Falcons with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while
Sean Sucarichi scored nine and dished two assists.
DeJaun Sidney and
Zach Sloan each had eight points, with Sidney knocking down two 3-pointers.
The 14th-ranked Marlins forced 19 turnovers and converted them into 29 points, while Pfeiffer managed just 10 points off turnovers. The Marlins also held a 32-26 edge in points in the paint and hit 10 threes compared to Pfeiffer's seven.
The Falcons will return to play on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 30 when it plays host and #9 Christopher Newport at 4:00 p.m.
